I CHOOSE ME!

How often do we spend time worrying about the affairs of others and their needs but neglect our own well-being? Have you ever been guilted into doing for others first because “they” say – It’s better to give than to receive; There’s no I in Team; If you love me, you would…; or Give, and it will come back to you. Now, I am all for service to others. That’s what makes us unique, and that’s what makes the world feel kinder. We all need someone to help us. We can’t always do it alone. HOWEVER, I realized after many, many years of service to others that I somehow forgot that I come first. And "me" FIRST is okay. I also realized others were feeling the same way.

I remember one day, my husband and I woke up and had this illuminating realization. For years, we were extremely involved in our children’s lives and their activities – and rightfully so. For instance, we traveled to all of their sporting events, participated in all of their activities in some capacity, supplied their needs, and we wouldn’t change it for the world. But we woke up one day, looked in the mirror, and had to ask questions like: Who am I? How do I feel about myself? What have I done for me these past two decades? What’s next? During my entire adult life, I have been a wife, mother, coach, and worked tirelessly in ministry at some capacity - All in service to others. I had to ask myself the question, where was I in the midst? My husband was feeling the same way, and we realized that there must be others who were feeling like we did.
