Protecting Your Energy
If you are like me, you have probably heard a lot of people talking about protecting their energy.
So, what is energy as it relates to people and their space? Webster defines energy as a fundamental entity of nature that is transferred between parts of a system in the production of physical change within the system and is usually regarded as one's capacity for their ability to work. I like this definition because of the focus on transferring parts of a system in the production of physical change. And the body is a system; you have a nervous system, skeletal system, muscular system, digestive system, respiratory system, etc. And I am sure you will agree that when someone comes into your space, you can feel yourself gaining or losing energy, and sometimes you even experience the physical change within your body.
You could be at peace while minding your business, and someone negative comes into your space and messes up the whole atmosphere, leaving you feeling drained. Or the opposite, you may be feeling upset or stressed, and someone who carries that positive energy comes into your space, and all of sudden, you're feeling better already. Or how about when you are about to play in a competition and you are filled with fear, then your team starts singing, dancing, chanting, hyping you up, and all of sudden you are ready to conquer the world.
This is why it is so vitally important that you mind your energy. It’s important to be able to identify your energy space or environment, your energy triggers, and your energy vampires. Most of the time, we don’t know how to react or know when we need to make an adjustment and we just let things happen to us. I am sure you agree that you value your energy environment and that you would do whatever it takes to make sure it is protected at all costs. Because when you realize that it’s okay for you to Choose Yourself, you must do so even if it makes others feel uncomfortable or offended. And listen, it’s not just about feeling good for the sake of feeling good - it’s about your mental, emotional and physical health. If you agree that your body and the bodies that you surround yourself with are a system, when one of those systems is malfunctioning, then it is physically unhealthy for you to absorb their malfunction i.e. negative energy.
I bet you can also agree with me that most anxiety, depression, and mental ailments, are because of an experience you had with another person. It’s time that we take back the gift that God has blessed us with and honor this precious commodity - our energy systems!
I believe that light attracts light and familiarity attracts familiarity. What you give your energy to is what you also become in a sense. In our country, we have experienced a collective unrest and energy shift that has brought about mental, emotional, and physical disorder and discontentment. Think about the recent presidential election, the death of George Floyd, as well as the aftermath, the recent school shooting at Uvalde, or even the overturning of Roe vs Wade. I believe some polarity (which is the state of having two opposite or contradictory tendencies, opinions, or aspects) is important to bring about change. However, I equally believe that if you are experiencing constant negativity in your home or other people’s issues outside of your home, that becomes your new normal. You may want to check your energy barometer as it relates to your mental and emotional health.
There are some people that are just angry all of the time. They are online spewing venom because of their disdain for other people’s opinions. Every time you talk to them, they have something negative to say. You get in the car with them and they fuss about traffic or how other people drive. And so on and so forth. Are you one of those people? Is that how people tend to describe you? An energy sucker? Are you addicted to gossip, mean comments, and drama? If you are, how is that serving you? Does it actually feel good?
Are you willing to feel good about life? Are you willing to make a shift toward things that are positive? Just imagine where we would be as a nation if we all looked inward and made a decision to do things that exalt love, peace, and harmony. Imagine if we believed that we are all one – I am you, and you are me. Listen, we truly are all one, and I want love to prevail amongst all of us. I love hearing your opinions because it opens up my perspective. We may be different, but we are the same in many ways. Just imagine how beautiful our world would be if we genuinely cared for each other and let love permeate our existence. What if our decisions are made in love for humanity. Or how about we isolate negativity, move away from it, and move toward those things that are positive?
I am going to continue practicing minding my energy and protecting my mental environment. How about you? As a coach, mentor, wife, mother, relative, and friend, I am bound to come across people who have issues. But we can collectively practice identifying when that energy presents itself and putting up our shield of protection. I like when the scripture says to put on the amour of God and the shield of faith. I have faith that the result of any encounter will eventually result in something positive. Why? Because I am open to hearing other people’s perspectives because your perspective helps me to grow. I know my positive energy will help you to see another side of that issue, especially if you can only see the negative. Remember, the more you stay in one place mentally, that place will create a home of its own in your mind. What you give your attention to is exactly what you become. And I believe it is all about your energy. Mind your energy, beloved. Be careful with staring into the abyss because the abyss will become one with you.
I hope I said something today to help you along your way. There’s a lot of gossipy information about goofy stuff everyone is putting out to grab your attention. I know because I do my fair share of laughing at those funny things too. Laughter is good medicine. But I believe the information that I am sharing with you is valuable and that there is a need for balance with the things we consume.
